Akemi Yamamoto

Dr. Akemi Yamamoto is from the northern region of Japan. After obtaining a PhD degree from Niigata University, Japan with a dissertation on “Factors affecting plasma amino acid concentration as a criterion for estimating amino acid requirements in laying hens,” she worked at the Institute of Livestock Environmental Technology as a senior researcher. Then, she focused on reducing nitrogen excretion and ammonia and odor emissions from pig by dietary manipulation. She worked for Gifu University, Japan for four years as an associate professor, with a dual appointment in the Graduate School of Agriculture and the Graduate School of Applied Biological Sciences, before becoming a full professor in the spring of 2017. Her current research focus is nutrient requirements and nutritional value of ingredients in poultry and pigs.

In early 2017, Dr. Yamamoto joined our lab during her sabbatical leave for four months. Her lab team in Japan has been developing an in vitro digestion technique which be able to predict CP, DM, and energy digestibility at once. She applied this procedure for estimating in vitro amino acid digestion for pigs during her stay here.
