Scott Baker grew up on a farrow to finish swine operation in western Illinois, where he was heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of the farm. He came to the University of Illinois to study animal sciences and during his time here, participated in meats evaluation and worked in Dr. Stein's lab.

During his final semester as an undergraduate student, Dr. Stein helped Scott make contact with Dr. Carsten Pedersen, a senior researcher at Schothorst Feed Research group in The Netherlands. He spent the spring in Lelystad, The Netherlands, working with the researchers and with the lab staff. After his return to the United States, he started his Master's program, working in the areas of phosphorous digestibility and metabolism. He completed his degree in 2011 and went to work at Trouw Nutrition USA in Highland, IL, his actual position is Commercialization and Marketing Manager, Companion Animal Innovation.
