
Shelby Ramirez (formerly Curry) is from Elk Grove, CA, and received her B.S. in Animal Science at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 2012. In 2014, she earned her M.S. with Dr. Stein. Her thesis focused on energy and nutrient digestibility of distillers dried grains with solubles by pigs. She continued with her graduate studies at Iowa State University where she joined Dr. Gabler's group. Her Ph.D. dissertation characterized porcine epidemic diarrhea virus in nursery pigs.
After defending in 2017, she began a post-doc with Dr. Brian Kerr at the USDA exploring different models for oxidative stress on intestinal integrity and function. In 2018, she joined BIOMIN America as a regional research manager where she oversees trials across swine, poultry, and ruminants. She currently lives in Ames, Iowa with her husband and 2 dogs. She is extremely grateful for the support and friendships made during graduate school.
