Guillermo Fondevila Lobera

Guillermo is from Zaragoza, Spain. He has a degree in Agronomical Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) with a specialty in animal nutrition. As an undergraduate, he participated in different projects on pig and poultry nutrition within the research team supervised by Dr. Gonzalo González Mateos.

After successfully completing his degree in 2013, he worked as a research technician in the Poultry Research Center of Trouw Nutrition in Casarrubios del Monte (Toledo, Spain) for two years. While there, he worked on several projects focused on broiler and laying hen nutrition.

In 2015, he began his doctoral program at the UPM under the supervision of Dr. Gonzalo González Mateos, and his research is focused on different factors affecting eating dynamics and function of the proximal gastrointestinal tract in broiler chickens. He is currently studying the effects of feed restriction, intermittent feeding and source and level of fiber in the diet on the development of the crop and gizzard of the birds.

In August 2017, Guillermo came to UIUC as a visiting scholar to work with our research team. While here, he worked on an experiment to determine calcium and phosphorus requirements in phase I pigs. He returned to Spain in October 2017 to finish his doctoral studies.
