Jessica Lozano

My name is Jessica Lozano Gutierrez, and I am from Bogota, Colombia. I studied animal science at La Salle University in Bogota, Colombia, and I obtained a bachelor’s degree. I have always liked animals, special cattle and pigs. Before this bachelor’s degree, I did a technical career in Embryo transfer in cattle. At that moment, I knew that animal production are my vocation. I love to work with them.

At the University of La Salle, I worked with pigs and I learned about pigs and how amazing animals are, and the opportunities with them in the industry around the world. After I got my bachelor’s degree, I worked for six years in swine production. My professional experience is in different small farms, and in the biggest swine company in Colombia. In La Fazenda, I had a position as a supervisor in farrowing. After two years, I got a different position as a supervisor in gestation, taking care of five thousand sows. I gained knowledge of management of the pig flow, managing personnel, and achieving productivity goals. I also gained good skills in professional and personal development for further positions. Then, I decided to achieve a new personal goal and in 2019, I flew to Melbourne, Australia. It had been a great experience for my personal and professional performance. In the last two years, I worked with an animal food company and I understood that swine nutrition is the most important component in pork production, for this reason I started a new challenge as a visiting scholar in the Monogastric Nutrition Laboratory with Dr. Hans Stein, who gave me the opportunity to be part of his team. I have many expectations and hope to learn new skills and try to contribute to the development of animal production.
