Joan Lluis is from Murcia, Spain. He has a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Universidad de Murcia. As an undergraduate, he was internal student in the department of nutrition and animal production for four years and participated in different projects on poultry and pigs.

When he finished his degree in 2015, he worked as a veterinarian in Agrourbana Carthago (Cartagena, Spain) for one year. This company had 5.000 sows and 8.000 beefs and he worked in all stages of pig production, the last six months as a supervisor of the swine production.

After this experience, he started a Master degree in Animal Production and Health taught by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid & the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He did his practices in the research team supervised by Dr. Gonzalo González Mateos. In 2017, he began his doctoral program at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in this research team. His research is focused on the differences between strains of broilers with low or high growth performance potential when they are subjected to different food strategies, such as feed form, level of fiber inclusion, particle size or feed restriction.

In July 2019, Joan Lluis came to UIUC as a visiting scholar to work with our research team. In October 2019 he came back to Spain to continue with his Ph.D.
