Luis Ponce

I was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. My professional trajectory has not been linear; in truth, I believe I have been fortunate to be in the right place at the right time to accept highly diverse challenges.

I hold a degree in International Business, yet my career has led me along unexpected paths. I worked in the wine industry at 'Bodega De Cote,' one of the most prominent wineries in Querétaro, progressing from conducting vineyard tours to serving as a sommelier and tourism manager. Subsequently, I transitioned into the public sector, serving as a branch manager for Banco del Bienestar. Additionally, I co-founded PABEC with colleagues, where we successfully patented a machine designed for drying wet materials. It was during this project, while researching the utilization of organic waste in swine nutrition, that my interest in the agricultural sector was sparked.

My integration into Dr. Hans H. Stein’s laboratory at the University of Illinois occurred organically. My wife is pursuing her doctoral degree under his supervision, and through this connection, I was given the opportunity to join the team in May of this year.

Currently, I am responsible for the operational coordination of the farm and laboratory protocols. While this is an entirely new field for me, I approach this role with my consistent work ethic: a readiness to understand complex systems and a commitment to managing daily operations to achieve the best possible outcomes.
