Personnel changes

Vanessa Lagos and Cristhiam Muñoz arrived from Bogotá, Colombia. They will be with us for six months as visiting scholars.

Yue She is another new visiting scholar in our lab. She comes to us from the Ministry of Agriculture Feed Industry Centre at China Agricultural University in Beijing, and will be with us for one year.

Haley Spangler is our new lab manager. Haley earned her Master's degree working on poultry nutrition with Dr. Parsons.

Welcome to all of the new arrivals!

Finally, Matheus Amorim's last day was August 11. We wish him all the best as he goes back to the Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri in Brazil to finish his degree.

Lab activities

Neil started an experiment to quantify the degradation of fiber fractions from diets containing DDGS, wheat middlings, or soybean hulls along the intestinal tract of pigs, and to relate this information to the amount of digestible energy (DE) supplied by each diet.

Chengfei finished a trial to determine amino acid digestibility in soy protein concentrate.

Travel

Neil traveled to Warsaw, Poland to attend the EAAP meeting which will take place from August 31 through September 4.

Kate and John volunteered in the pig birthing center at the Illinois State Fair. Sadly, no photos are available, but we're sure a good time was had by all.
