Almeida, F. N., J. K. Htoo, J. Thomson, and H. H. Stein. 2014. Digestibility by growing pigs of amino acids in heat-damaged sunflower meal and cottonseed meal. J. Anim. Sci. 92:585-593.

Lab activities

Kate started a meat and bone meal trial, an antibiotic trial with nursery pigs, an experiment with conventional and high protein canola meal fed to sows, and an experiment to test production of ileal digesta samples for characterization of the undigested substrate in main protein ingredients.

She also finished studies on feeding carob meal to nursery pigs, and direct-fed microbials in weanling pig diets.

John started an experiment to create diets that are deficient only in threonine and lysine. The diets will be used in a later experiment to determine the threonine requirement.

Shelby finished an experiment to measure DE and ME in 23 sources of DDGS from Illinois and surrounding areas.

Travel and visitors

Dr. Stein, Oscar, and Neil braved the snow to attend the Illinois Pork Expo in Peoria on February 4 and 5.
