Achievements

Congratulations to Gloria Casas, who passed her prelims on January 21! Dr. Pedro Urriola, formerly a postdoc in the Stein lab and now an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota, was on her committee.

Personnel changes

After spending a year working with us, Dr. Chengfei Huang returned to China, where she will return to her position at the Ministry of Agriculture Feed Industry Centre.

Visiting scholars Cristhiam and Vanessa will now return to Bogota to complete requirements towards their BS degrees. We wish all of our departing friends the best of luck in your future endeavors!

Charmaine Espinosa joined us as a new Ph. D. student. Charmaine earned her Master's degree last year from the University of the Philippines at Los Baños, where she worked under the supervision of former Stein Lab postdoc Dr. Rommel Sulabo.

We also welcomed a new visiting scholar, Laia Blavi. Laia is a Ph. D. student at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Kelsey Duensing, who worked with us as a undergraduate student, is now a full time research assistant.

Travel and visitors

Dr. Stein gave a talk titled "Net energy systems for swine – research update" in Orlando on January 6 at the meeting for the North Central Coordinating Committee for swine nutrition.
