Achievements
Stein Lab Team in the fall, 2025.
Conferences
Doctor Stein participated in several conferences in November:
On Oct. 2, 2025, he participated at Novus Webinar and presented about: "Calcium and phosphorus: Foundations for lifetime sow performance."
On Oct. 14-17, 2025 Dr. Stein presented at the International Feed Ingredient Course (IFIC-2025), in Bangkok, Thailand, and he talk about:
- Carbohydrates in Feed Ingredients. Definition, analysis, and digestibility
- Sources of calcium and phosphorus in diets for pigs and poultry
- Requirements for calcium and phosphorus by developing gilts and sows
- Towards a new net energy system for pigs
- Global production of oilseed meal
- Value added soybean products
- Global production of cereal grains
- Use of bakery meal and former food products in diets for pigs and poultry
- Chelated minerals vs. sulfate or oxide forms of micro minerals
On Oct. 21-22, 2025, he talk at the US soybean export council (USSEC). Sustainability in animal nutritional and feed formulation. Clark, Pampanga, The Philippines, and he presented about: "Net energy in soybean meal." and "Digestible calcium and vitamin D requirements by growing pigs and sows."
On Oct. 29, 2025, he participated in a Webinar for the US soybean export council (USSEC). Cutting edges with US soy in poultry, swine and feed industries. Cartagena, Colombia, and talked about: "Net energy in soybean meal."
New Experiments
Juliana Ravagnani, master student in our lab, started an experiment about the Effects of soybean hulls in diets fed to late gestating and lactating sows on reproductive performance. This experiment is about soybean hull is a co-product of soybean and provides a considerable amount of fiber which helps with satiety and reduces stereotypic behaviors. It has also been demonstrated that feeding a high-fiber diet in late gestation and early lactation results in greater litter weight gain compared with feeding a low-fiber diet and also contributes to a reduction in the number of stillborn pigs. However, it is not known if the use of soybean hulls as the main source of fiber at different inclusions will also result in a greater reproductive performance in diets for late gestating and lactating sows.
