U of I researcher launches swine nutrition Web site

URBANA – University of Illinois researcher Dr. Hans H. Stein launched a new Web site to make his swine nutrition research more accessible and more applicable for producers and feed companies.

Stein’s Web site, http://nutrition.ansci.illinois.edu/, features a number of information resources and tools to help producers formulate diets, including spreadsheets detailing energy and nutrient digestibility for a variety of feed ingredients and calculators to help formulate cost-efficient diets.

"I intend for the site to be an important outreach component of our program," Stein said. "Our objective is to take the information we learn in our research and put it into the hands of the public. I hope producers, feed companies and anyone interested in swine nutrition will find it useful."

Information resources include a monthly newsletter, video and audio podcasts, and a complete listing of Stein Monogastric Nutrition Laboratory publications. Full text of many of the publications is available free of charge.

Stein is an associate professor in the U of I Department of Animal Sciences, where he conducts research and provides outreach programs in the area of intestinal physiology and feed ingredient evaluation.
