April 2024 Lab News

Achievements

Andrea Mallea defended her Masters thesis on April 18th, her presentation focused on determining the nutritional value of corn fermented protein in diets for weaning pigs. And Natalia Fanelli successfully defended her MS degree on the 25th, her thesis focused on her research about developing values for DIAAS in food proteins and demonstrate that these values are additive in mixed meals.

New Experiments

Diego Rodriguez and the visiting scholars at the farm started a two new experiments called "Micro mineral digestibility by gestating and lactating sows" and "Growth performance of weanling pigs fed diets supplemented with different sources of Cu".

Conferences

Doctor Stein gave one talk about: "Net energy in diets with varying levels of crude protein" at the USB Animal Working group meeting, St. Louis.

Also, he gave some talks in the Division of Nutritional Sciences Seminar, Urbana IL:

  • Towards improved amino acid nutrition in Humans
  • Net energy in soybean meal
  • Phytase effects on digestibility of Ca and P
