Effect of soybean variety and processing on growth performance of young chicks and pigs

Palacios, M. F., R.A. Easter, K.T. Soltwedel, C.M. Parsons, M.W. Douglas, T. Hymowitz and J.E. Pettigrew. 2004. Effect of soybean variety and processing on growth performance of young chicks and pigs. J. Anim Sci. 82:1108-1114. Link to full text (.pdf)

Take-home message:

  • Removal of lectins and Kunitz trypsin inhibitor from soybean improved growth performance compared to unprocessed conventional soybeans.
  • However, these soybeans still need to be heated to achieve same growth performance as soybean meal or extruded soybeans.
