Achievements

Our team participated in the Twenty-Third Annual Midwest Swine Nutrition Conference, Sep 5, Danville - Indiana.

New Experiments

Diego Rodriguez started at the farm 3 new experiments: "Effects of inserting a T-cannula into the distal ileum on growth performance of pigs", Effect of zinc source and supplementation levels on growth performance, post-weaning diarrhea, and intestinal health of weanling pigs and "Standardized ileal digestibility of amino acids in diets containing hybrid rye fed to growing pigs.

Conferences

Dr. Stein gave conferences at:

  • On Sep 5, at Midwest Swine Nutrition Conference, Danville, IN., about: "Soybean meal or crystalline amino acids in diets for growing pigs: Impact on diet net energy, pig growth performance, and nitrogen retention".
  • On Sep 12, on line conference for ASPE, Quito, Ecuador, about: "Fuentes de energía en dietas para cerdos".
  • On Sep 16, for the Colombian Pork Producers Association, Bogota, Colombia, on line conference about: "Uso de energía en las dietas para cerdos" and "Calcio, fósforo y fitasa en dietas para lechones".
  • On Sep 17, on line conference for ANAPOR, Panama City, Panama, about" Nuevos productos de soya para lechones destados".
  • On Sep 19 for ASPE, Quito,  Ecuador, two talks about: "Actualidades sobre la nutrición de calcio y fósforo en cerdos" and "Las fibras en las dietas porcinas y uso de xilanasa microbiana".
  • On Sep 19 on line talk for Amena, Queretaro, Mexico, about: "Minerales en dietas para cerdos".
  • from Sep 23 to 25 he participated at the USAID, Specialized formulated foods and local diet quality coordination meeting. Washington University, School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO, and gave a talk about: "Calculating DIAAS and meeting amino acid requirements".
  • Sep 26 for Amena, Queretaro, Mexico, Dr. Stein gave a talk about: "Enzimas en dietas porcinas".

Dr. Su A Lee, post doctor research associate in the Stein monogastric nutrition lab, and also Jimena Ibagon Ph D student presented a talk about: “Soybean oil equivalency of soybean meal in diets fed to growing pigs” at the 75th EAAP Annual Meeting, Florence, Italy.

Personnel changes

Diego Guerrero Huerta from Mexico, is our newest Ph D student. Diego has a degree in Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and a Master’s degree in Science.
