December 2020 Lab News

Achievements

On December 16, Paola Lancheros successfully defended her MS Thesis about "Indigestible fiber in diets based on corn and soybean meal or corn, soybean meal, and DDGS and in feces from pigs fed these diets". Paola gave a great seminar and did a fantastic job during her defense.

On December 11, Carly Rundle passed her preliminary exam Friday, one more step accomplished.

Hannah Bailey won the Graduate College Conference Participation Award, University of Illinois.

New experiments

Diego Rodriguez and Jimena Ibagon started an experiment "Standardized ileal digestibility of amino acids in hybrid rye fed to growing pigs calculated using direct, regression, or difference procedures”.

Conferences

Doctor Stein gave online conferences:

  • On December 10, about “Value added soybean products” at an international symposium on “Intestinal microbiota of the pigs and efficient utilization of feed resources”. The symposium was organized by China Agricultural University.

  • On December 17, the talk was about "Feeding Hybrid Rye for pigs" at the KWS seminar, in Kiel, Germany.
