June 2024 Lab News

Achievements

We hosted a group of visitors from International Ingredients (St. Louis). Jessica Acosta gave a presentation about our lab and showed them the quad and the feed mill. Please see attached photos. You can also make a story on FB if you want to.

New Experiments

Diego Rodriguez started at the farm 6 new experiments:

  • Determination of NE and nutrient digestibility in diets containing varying levels of soybean hulls
  • Digestibility of energy and concentrations of digestible and metabolizable energy in low-oligosaccharide soybean meal and in conventional soybean meal fed to weanling pigs
  • Digestibility of phosphorus in low-oligosaccharide soybean meal and in a conventional soybean meal fed to weanling pigs
  • Standardized ileal digestibility of amino acids in low-oligosaccharide soybean meal and in conventional soybean meal fed to weanling pigs
  • Barriers to digestibility of amino acids in soybean meal fed to pigs
  • Growth performance, blood inositol levels, and immune characteristics of pigs fed diets containing soybean meal and high levels of phytase

Bibiana Jaramillo started two trials: "Digestibility of Ca and P using different levels of 1 α hydroxycholecalciferol (Vitamin D metabolite) Pigs 10 to 15 kg BW", and "Performance using 0.5 x, 1 x, 3 x and 5 x doses of 1 α hydroxycholecalciferol metabolite, From 30 to 130 kg".

Conferences

Doctor Stein gave conferences in USSEC Europe. Madrid June 6-7, 2024 and he talked about: "Heat damage and Maillard reactions" and "Net energy in soybean meal".

Dr. Stein also gave a conference in Spanish at eh University of Chile, Santiago de Chile, June 25, 2024. The talks were about: "Recomendaciones de Calcio y fósforo digestible en dietas de cerdos" and Tecnologías para mejorar la calidad de las dietas".
